Volunteer reading a book to a class

I have been volunteering with RPS 205 for several years as part of the Rockford Reads program. The Rockford Rotary Club started this program 22 years ago as an initiative to help boost 2nd and 3rd grade students’ reading skills. Volunteers with this program sign up with particular schools and read with the same 2nd or 3rd grade students for one hour a week.

I do a lot of volunteering in the community, but this is my favorite hour of the week for sure. It is very rewarding to go through the school year and see the progress the students I am working with make in their reading skills. The relationships that are formed with the students are great! And the students let you know that they have missed you when you don’t show up one week.

If you are looking for a way to make a difference and have an hour a week to spare, please consider volunteering with Rockford Reads. You will be happy you did!
