Athletic Hall of Fame

The RPS 205 Athletics Hall of Fame invites the community to the 11th Annual Champions Ball on Sunday, July 28 at the Illinois Bank and Trust Pavilion, 1868 Reid Farm Road. The event will celebrate outstanding contributions to Rockford athletics and honor the 2024 inductees into the Hall of Fame.

Meet the Class of 2024:

•Horace Box: Celebrated head track coach at Auburn High School (1974-1986). Coach Box's leadership produced numerous champions, record-setting athletes, and scholarship opportunities for students. His mentorship has had a lasting impact on the community and the careers of many athletes, including those who competed at the Olympic Trials.

•Clarence Miller: Esteemed three-sport athlete from Rockford West High School, excelling in track, football, and basketball. Named Athlete of the Year in 1986, Miller went on to set records at Illinois State University and played professionally with the New York Jets and Toronto Argonauts.

•Laurie Miller: The first softball player inducted into the Hall of Fame, Laurie led her high school team to multiple championships and continued her record-breaking career at Northern Illinois University. Known as the "strikeout queen," she set impressive records and earned multiple MVP and conference honors.

•Rick Schmitz: A dedicated coach since 1978, Schmitz has significantly influenced Rockford's wrestling and football programs across all four high schools. His unique ability to connect with and mentor students has shaped the lives of countless athletes and fellow coaches.

•Cocktail Hour: 1-2 p.m.

•Induction Ceremony: 2-3 p.m.

The event promises an inspiring afternoon of recognition and reflection.
